London Underground (LU) will be tendering for the design, manufacture and supply of LED lighting for the 92TS which is used on the Central and the Waterloo & City Lines. LED lighting is required for the 92TS to improve carriage ambience scores, increase energy efficiency, and reduce maintenance costs. LED lighting is required for the 92TS to improve carriage ambience scores, increase energy efficiency, and reduce maintenance costs. With the current aged housing designed for fluorescent light tubes, frequent cleaning and maintenance needs to be conducted which involves opening and closing the diffusers. This is a costly and time consuming activity conducted by the train maintainers which could be avoided by upgrading to sealed LED lighting units, allowing cleaners to swiftly clean the lighting surface. The installations of the LED lighting units are part of the Central Line Improvement Programme (CLIP). CLIP is designed to maximise efficiency and minimise time that trains are taken out of operation for installation and testing. Combining the improvements as a programme with a single installer implementing a suite of modifications shall maximise the work done on the train minimising operational disruption. LED lighting has recently been procured for the Bakerloo Line 72TS, however the two procurements were not combined for the following reasons: — differing technical requirements; - space envelope - existing electrical lighting architecture - power supply The LED lighting 92TS procurement must integrate with other projects as part of CLIP.
