Summary of the work A thorough series of user research activities with the first cohorts of healthcare science trainees using a new 'off-the-shelf' e-portfolio service. Specialist role User researcher Expected Contract Length 14 months Latest start date Monday 4 September 2017 Who Speclialist Work With You will be working with the in-house digital team at the National School of Healthcare Science who are responsible for the configuration, implementation and support of the new e-portfolio service. The team have solid experience of conducting user research with healthcare science trainees. What Specialists Work On Conduct a thorough and objective series of user research activities with the first cohorts of healthcare science trainees using a new 'off-the-shelf' e-portfolio service to allow the NSHCS Team to make continuous improvements during the setup phases of the service, and give them the confidence to launch the service across different training programmes. We anticipate the work to require usability testing sessions, user satisfactions surveys and user interviews as part of a longtitudinal survey. Skills & Experience • Possess demonstrable experience of delivering user research activities and outputs in line with the Government Digital Service’s Design Principles and Digital Service Standard • Possess demonstrable experience of leading user research activities for a digital service during an Agile development project • Possess demonstrable experience of facilitating face-to-face and remote usability testing sessions with end users • Possess demonstrable experience of setting up and analysing web analytics for actionable insights Nice to Haves • Demonstrate experience of working with public and Government health departments and arms length bodies • Demonstrate experience of digital online learning and assessment services Work Location We anticipate that this work will require both on-site working at our offices (below) plus remote working. There may also be some work conducted in other locations in Birmingham. We are located at: 213 St Chads Court Hagley Road Birmingham B16 9RG Working Arrangments We will want the specialist/team to be outcomes focused rather than to work for set times in set locations. So, we will want the specialist/team to work on dedicated, pre-planned user research activities with planned outcomes. We intend this work to be spread over a 12-14 month period, with some periods of intense work (in Sept - Nov 2017, for example) and periods of much less intense work. Is this role inside of IR35? Given that this is not a commission where we are seeking a specialist to be embedded with us consistently but rather one where the specialist will be driven by outcomes, and in the pursuit of those they can be located wherever they like and work very flexibly, we do not see this role being 'inside of IR35'. In other words, we do not anticipate the specialist acting like or being treated like an employee whose tax affairs we are therefore liable for. 2. In the less intense work periods stated above, do you still envisage the successful specialist will still be required 4/5 days a week (i.e over the 14 months will this be full time)? Over the 14 months this will be far from full-time. Typically, the work is not going to need to be 4-5 days per week. There are some short, intense periods - 2 months this Autumn, two months next Spring, where the work will be intense, but generally we do not see this as being anywhere near full-time work over the 14 months. 3. Could the first cohorts of healthcare science trainees be located anywhere in the country? Yes, they are. Our trainees are located in over 400 healthcare settings across England. 4. Is there a budget/day rate indication for this work? No, not currently. After shortlisting, we expect to work collaboratively with our supplier to agree the overall scope and cost of the work. 5. Will feedback regarding consultant applications be adhering to the 10 working day SLA turn around for this role? Yes, we fully intend and expect to be very swift with feedback and certainly within 10 days.
