Tender description
The Director of Public Health is required to produce an independent annual report on the health and wellbeing of their population highlighting key issues. The annual report for 2017-18 for both Knowsley and Sefton will focus on children and young people’s mental health and wellbeing. Our Mental Health is a vital part of our quality of life. However, at least one in four of us will experience a mental health problem at some point in our life, and around half of people with lifetime mental health problems experience their first symptoms by the age of 14. By promoting good mental health and intervening early, particularly in the critical childhood and teenage years, we can help to prevent mental illness from developing and mitigate its effects when it does. According to Public Health England in the 2015 report “Promoting Children And Young People’s Emotional Health And Wellbeing.” In an average class of 30, 15-year-old pupils: • 3 could have a mental disorder • 10 are likely to have their parents separate • 1 could have experienced the death of a parent • 7 are likely to have been bullied • 6 may be self-harming Knowsley and Sefton Council have a close working relationship, and have a Joint Director Of Public Health. Although both areas have different demographics, levels of deprivation and health issues, both areas have improving mental health and wellbeing in children and young people as a priority. Each area has significant engagement with children and young people and programmes in place to improve emotional wellbeing of children and address mental health issues. These include school and community based services, including youth service and workforce development programmes and support services for children with mental health problems such as Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) and specific counselling service. Details of the services and programmes available in each area, local statistics and key contacts will be provided to the successful bidder. Keywords: Annual Report, Video, Digital
