Tender description

The service will coordinate, facilitate, support and deliver a range of evidence-based interventions to improve oral health and reduce oral health inequalities within key target groups in Hampshire including: — The continued provision and development of a targeted supervised tooth brushing programme and oral health award scheme for 0-5 year olds in early years settings. — Targeted provision of toothbrushes and paste by health visitors and other early years practitioners. — Provision of online and/or face to face oral health promotion training and support for practitioners working with vulnerable adults and older people. — Provision of the fieldwork for the biennial dental public health epidemiology programme oral health survey of five-year-old children, in accordance with national protocols. The contract has been let for 3 years, with an extension clause of up to 2 years. The maximum contract length is 5 years. This service will contribute to the improvement in the oral health of the population. Local outcomes shall include, but are not limited to: — Improved oral health for the local population; — A reduction in the numbers of children and adults with tooth decay and gum disease, in particular, in communities and groups that currently have the highest levels of oral disease; — Improved access to and uptake of NHS dentistry; — Reduced health inequalities relating to access to dental care, with a priority focus on children, older people, disadvantaged families and vulnerable groups; — Reduced consumption of sugary food and drinks, alcohol and tobacco; — Reduced absence from school and days off work associated with dental disease including dental pain; — Reduction in the number of Hampshire children requiring multiple extractions under general anaesthetic, in particular in the most disadvantaged groups; — Reduction in A&E attendances and urgent care for dental problems.
