Summary of the work Senior DevOps engineer to act as technical lead in an established automation team Specialist role Developer Latest start date Friday 29 September 2017 Maximum Day Rate £ 1000.00 Who Speclialist Work With The Criminal Justice System’s Common Platform Programme (CJSCPP) has an experienced team of DevOps engineers working on a software delivery pipeline and associated automation. The specialist is expected to play a key role in this team and to work with delivery teams and the operational team. What Specialists Work On Act as tech lead for the automation team. Provide guidance and advice in the design and creation of new automation code and systems. Help define coding/technical/practice standards for the team and promote the team’s adherence to those standards. Help the team understand the development practices of the programme’s developer teams. Help the team’s delivery manager prioritise work. The specialist will also be doing a lot of hands-on automation work alongside the rest of the team. Skills & Experience • Demonstrable experience of working as a DevOps technical lead on large digital platform • Demonstrable experience of: Managing data to high security requirements (e.g. Banking, PCI, Government data) • Demonstrable experience of: Linux administration • Demonstrable experience of: Ansible (at least 1 year’s experience) • Demonstrable experience of: Maven • Demonstrable experience of: Jenkins • Demonstrable experience of: Postgresql • Demonstrable experience of: Artifactory • Demonstrable experience of: Zabbix • Demonstrable experience of: Elk Stack • Demonstrable experience of: The creation and automation of scalable environments on a cloud platform • Demonstrable experience of: Design and delivery of resilient and highly-available systems • Demonstrable experience of: Infrastructure as Code principles and practices • Demonstrable experience of: DevOps culture and practices • Demonstrable experience of: Containerisation • Demonstrable experience of: Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery • Demonstrable experience of: Gitlab or Github or Gerrit or equivalent Git workflow framework • Demonstrable experience of: Agile (Scrum/Kanban) practices Nice to Haves • Demonstrable experience of: Working as a DevOps technical lead on a Government Platform • Demonstrable experience of: At least 1 year working on a Government Digital Platform Project • Demonstrable experience of: Managing data to meet Government security requirements • Demonstrable experience of: CQRS • Demonstrable experience of: Experience on a CJS Project • Demonstrable experience of: Java development experience • Demonstrable experience of: Red Hat 7 • Demonstrable experience of: Artemis MQ or equivalent message queue technology • Demonstrable experience of: Docker • Demonstrable experience of: OpenStack • Demonstrable experience of: Some development experience (outside the scripting languages used in DevOps) Work Location Primarily Southern House, Croydon CR0 1XG. There will be occasional work in central London. Working Arrangments The specialist will be required to work onsite (usually at the base location but sometimes at the central London office) working a five (5) day week. The Service is being delivered against the GDS Service Manual (e.g. agile delivery aligned to scrum methodology). For any work performed at a location different to that of the Base location and London (outside of the M25), all reasonable travel and expenses costs shall be met in accordance with the rates set out in the MoJ travel and subsistence policy. All expenses will require prior approval from HMCTS before being reimbursed. Or is it an option for the candidate to apply for it once shortlisted ? We would expect any shortlisted candidate to be suitably cleared prior to shortlisting. 2. Latest start date is specified as 29th Sep but what is the preferred/ideal start date? We are working to the date published. 3. What is the duration of the contract? We would anticipate Q1 2018 as the initial review date. We would let a contract that could support a 24 month term. 4. Is this role outside IR35? Our current position is that it is outside of IR35 however that determination may be subject to challenge / change over time. 5. is there any flexibility on the start date? I have an associate that is required to serve a 3 week notice period. We anticipate needing to start on or before the date published. 6. Could this role not be based out of the Petty France office for 5 days a week or are the current team who need the guidance based in Croydon? This is principally a Croydon based role. 7.
