For the Provision of a Tenancy Fraud Detection Service

Although tenancy fraud and in particular sub letting is often thought to be an issue confined to London and other major UK cities, we are aware of our obligations to ensure that social housing is used for the purpose it was provided for i.e. as a home for often vulnerable families and individuals in housing need. Tenants exercising their Right to Buy/Acquire (currently in excess of 100 per year) means that the number of homes we have available for this purpose in Rochdale is diminishing as new build activity fails to keep pace. We need therefore assurance that the homes we do have are being utilised effectively in responding to the needs of individuals and families in the Rochdale Borough.
