Summary of the work The DQDC develop several different products that deliver services to Border Force and continued user research is key to this. We are currently looking to develop more services and a user researcher will be part of a core feature team to do this. Specialist role User researcher Expected Contract Length 12 Months with the option to extend for further period up to a maximum of a further 6 months. Latest start date Monday 14 August 2017 Maximum Day Rate £650 Who Speclialist Work With A multi-disciplinary agile team including UX designer, front-end developer, back-end developer, content designer, dev ops, architecture, delivery manager, product manager and service manager. What Specialists Work On The researcher will be required to work with our business users and team to help deliver several different web, and API, based applications and services. The Data Quality capability is a service that provides reporting and analytics on Advance Passenger Information and other Aviation based data sets to Border Force. Skills & Experience • Extensive experience of conducting user research (e.g. guerrilla/pop-up testing, interviewing, and focus groups) and usability (lab) test sessions – 12% • Have a degree in the relevant field combined with experience. Degrees in HCI, psychology, anthropology, design research or similar are relevant – 10% • Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills, with the ability to see the bigger picture and translate business issues and needs into relevant, actionable research plans and objectives – 7%. • Strong analytical skills and the ability to quickly develop recommendations based on quantitative and qualitative evidence – 6%.. • Extensive experience of the research process, including drafting discussion guides, recruiting respondents, organising test venues and mobilising resources – 5%. • Ability to work with users and stakeholders at all levels – 5%. • Experience in working with those new to user research/user experience – 8%. • Excellent communications skills and ability to present research findings in a creative and compelling way – 6% • Full understanding and demonstrable experience of research methodologies. Capability to select best technique. E.g. Qualitative: in-depth interview, usability testing, and contextual enquiry. Quantitative: benchmarking survey, web analytics – 6%. Nice to Haves • Airline domain knowledge • Strong understanding of the Government Digital Service’s Design Principles and Digital Service Standard • Experience of interface design is a plus Work Location Main location for the work will be at Bedfont Lakes Business Park for 4-5 days, with occasional other locations being central London and Croydon. Remote working may be available where necessary. Working Arrangments The supplier is expected supply a resource working within a feature team made of up of the specialist skills required to deliver the outcomes. We expect the supplier to be flexible to our needs and can make working with a mixed team across multiple sites effective. Off site and remote working can be accommodated, however due to security considerations this would need to be discussed. Travel to regional sites to be agreed, expenses incurred from travel outside of the M25/Greater London will be subject to Home Office Travel and Subsistence Policy. Security Clearance All staff must be SC cleared. We will ask bidders for details of key personnel, if successful the bidder will be asked for confirmation of security clearance or we will initiate clearance process. Additional T&Cs The initial term of the agreement will be for 12 Months with and option to extend for a period up to a maximum of a further 6 months.
