Bord Iascaigh Mhara (BIM), is the state agency tasked with development of the Irish seafood sector. BIM is committed to providing commercially relevant and innovative services to the Irish seafood industry that drive growth opportunities, leading to a thriving Irish seafood industry. As detailed in the agency’s five year corporate strategy ‘Capturing Ireland’s Share of the Global Seafood Opportunity’, this will include a specific focus on adding value, enhancing competitiveness, developing efficient supply chains and creating jobs in a sustainable, natural resource based industry for the benefit of coastal communities. In so doing, BIM will deliver on the Government’s Food Wise 2025 targets for seafood and create sustainable jobs. Following a competitive tender process in 2016, BIM engaged a contractor to supply and install four new flake ice making systems at two ice plant sites; Castletownbere, Co. Cork and Dunmore East, Co. Waterford. In May 2017, the appointed contractor went into liquidation with the project well underway but unfinished. BIM now wish to appoint a contractor to complete the project.
