AGMA authorities are obliged by statute to ensure that food premises within the Borough are inspected in accordance with the frequency determined by the Food Standards Agency's (FSA) Code of Practice. Like all local authorities, this council is routinely monitored by the FSA in terms of its performance in this important area of work. In March 2015, the FSA undertook an intensive 2 day audit of the Council's Food Safety work. The FSA was critical of the authority's approach in terms of the level of officer resource made available to Food enforcement and the number of inspections of food premises which the Public Protection section had been able to carry out. 2017 -2018: Premises inspected for Food Safety: — Category C — 200 premises to be inspected by contractors estimated at 56 GBP per inspection = 11 200 GBP. — Category D — 200 premises to be inspected by contractors estimated at 56 GBP per inspections = 11 200 GBP. — Revisits — based on approximately 20 % of inspections requiring revisit compliance check — 80 revisits estimated at 35 GBP per revisit = 2 800 GBP. — Category D — 175 premises to be contacted by telephone by contractors and questionnaires completed estimated at 25 GBP per questionnaire = 4 375 GBP. — Category E — 50 premises to be contacted by telephone by contractors and questionnaires completed estimated at 25 GBP per questionnaire = 1 250 GBP. — Unrated — 100 unrated premises to be inspected at an estimated cost of 66 GBP each = 6 600 GBP.
