NPL's 1.2 MN deadweight force machine iis one of the most accurate calibration systems in the world and has operated for over 25 years. The last major changes to the machine took place about 10 years ago during the move from the old site. The reliability of the control system has declined in recent years and the cost of keeping the machine operational has risen. The replacement and upgrade of the control system of the NPL 1.2 MN deadweight force machine is necessary as many components are obsolete and cannot be satisfactorily replaced when they fail, this compromises the operation of the facility and will mean that the machine will become unusable in the near future without this remedial work. Upgrades will enhance the usability and reliability of the machine and improve the Measurement Service provided to UK industry. Keywords: Lab Equipment
