The National Pollinator Strategy is a 10 year strategy launched in November 2014, setting out the Government’s commitment to play a leading role in improving the status of pollinating insects in England. Bees and other pollinators play an essential role in contributing to our £100bn food industry and are worth more than £400m to the economy. The Strategy recognises that pollinators face a wide range of environmental pressures and that some species are threatened. The Strategy is a shared plan between Government and stakeholders and sets out a framework for working together, building on current policies across Defra which support pollinators, including habitat and species conservation, honey bee disease control programme, pesticides and environmental stewardship. Local partners are vital for delivery of many of the actions contained within the Strategy. To support local delivery, we invite Local Nature Partnerships (LNPs) to bid competitively for funding for local pollinator projects. The anticipated level of funding available for each successful application will range from £1,000 to £4,000 depending on the specific details of the project. Fifty percent of approved funding will be paid in advance of need with the balance being paid upon completion of the project and on receipt of an acceptable final report. The approved projects will aim to: • Raise awareness of the call to action message, ‘Bees’ Needs: Food and a Home’. • Engage local influencers in a strategic way to promote land management advice. • Help to secure commitments from large-scale land managers to follow Bees’ Needs advice. The Authority expects proposed projects to be sustainable beyond the grant funding period. Applicants must highlight how the proposed project links strategically with any wider plans for the National Pollinator Strategy, how the project fits with other relevant initiatives and the degree of support from partnerships associated with other initiatives.
