Durham is a thriving centre for teaching and research in Geography and Archaeology. We have significant research activity in inorganic rocks, sediments, and archaeological materials. To underpin this work we require equipment to quickly and cheaply produce quantitative bulk chemical and bulk mineralogical data on a number of materials. The University are therefore looking to purchase a Combination X-ray Florescence (XRF) and X-ray Diffraction (XRD) Spectrometer and Bench-top X-ray Diffraction (XRD) Spectrometer. We wish to purchase a combination X-ray Florescence (XRF) spectrometer and X-ray Diffractometer (XRD), capable of simultaneously determining the bulk elemental and bulk mineralogical composition of a wide range of inorganic materials. We also need to purchase ancillary equipment to help prepare samples for analysis in the unit. This will be a 1 off purchase. We wish to purchase a Bench top X-ray Diffraction (XRD) Diffractometer, capable of determining the bulk mineralogical composition of a wide range of inorganic materials, including clay minerals, in real-time. The unit should be able to effectively analyse small amounts of powder sample (approximately 5 mg) to limit damage to archaeological objects.
