Tender description
The MOONS (Multi-Objects Optical and Near-infrared Spectrograph for the VLT- Very Large Telescope) is a new concept for an astronomical spectrograph. This requirement is for the Camera Optics, a sub system of the Spectrograph instrument. The MOONS design consists of 2 identical cryogenic spectrographs. Each spectrograph incorporates 3 cameras. The requirement is to supply 6 completed cameras for the astronomical spectrograph. MOONS (Multi-Objects Optical and Near-infrared Spectrograph for the VLT- Very Large Telescope) is a new concept for an astronomical spectrograph. The requirement is for the supply of 6 completed cameras for the astronomical spectrograph. The MOONS design consists of two identical cryogenic spectrographs. Each spectrograph incorporates 3 cameras fed by fibre optics. The Camera optics can be conveniently divided into the following sub-systems: Camera-RI, Camera-YJ and Camera-H — These are to be used to re-image the spectra onto the detectors. These 3 cameras are made of 2 lenses (L1, L2) and 1 mirror (M1); all these elements have 1 aspheric surface. The lens L2 is positioned inside the central hole of L1. The cameras have a very fast focal aperture (about F/0.95) and a large field of view (about ±9o). — Camera-H covers the wavelengths range between 1450nm and 1800nm. — Camera-YJ covers the wavelengths range between 940nm and 1350nm. — Camera-RI works from 640nm to 950nm. The customer (UK ATC) will provide the glass blanks for the lenses and mirrors. UK ATC will initially assemble the spectrograph on site in Edinburgh, prior to disassembling for shipping and installation in Chile.
