Tender description

The Authority has a requirement for a Cryogenic Helium supply system to provide the low temperature Helium gas necessary to create frozen pellets which are fired into the fusion reactor to mitigate the effects of plasma disruption. To achieve this, the SPI system requires a continuous feed of cold saturated helium gas at <5K. The specification covers 3 main components: Main Transfer Line: this will be a semi-flexible 2-channel extension to an existing cryogenic line. It will connect to an existing Johnston coupling and will comprise 2 vacuum insulated cores, 1 for LHe supply to the Dewar and one for GHe return. The GHe return will act also as a line shield. Liquid Helium Dewar: A Helium storage dewar will have a maximum capacity of 1 000 litres. In addition to normal helium connections and instrumentation, the Dewar will be fitted with. The Authority has a requirement for a Cryogenic Helium supply system for installation within the Torus Hall at CCFE in Culham, U.K. It forms part of a Shattered Pellet Injector (SPI) system and its function is to provide the low temperature Helium gas necessary to create frozen pellets which are fired into the fusion reactor to mitigate the effects of plasma disruption. To achieve this, the SPI system requires a continuous feed of cold saturated helium gas at <5K. The specification covers 3 main components: Main Transfer Line: This will be a semi-flexible two-channel extension to an existing cryogenic line. It will connect to an existing Johnston coupling and will comprise 2 vacuum insulated cores, one for LHe supply to the Dewar and one for GHe return. The GHe return will act also as a line shield. Liquid Helium Dewar: A Helium storage dewar will have a maximum capacity of 1 000 litres. In addition to normal helium connections and instrumentation, the Dewar will be fitted with a submersed coil to provide cold Helium gas at ~4.5K and a Dewar pressurisation heater Valvebox: The vacuum insulated distribution valvebox will be equipped with 5 cryogenic valves and instrumentation. Attached will be 2 short flexible cryogenic lines (supply and return) for the SPI device, as well as a bayonet-type connection for the main transfer line. The scope of supply is design, manufacture, delivery and commissioning of the above components. Due to physical constraints present in the Torus Hall, it is envisaged that all these components will be completely manufactured and tested off-site so that no on-site welding is necessary. Physical installation of the three main components above will be carried out by CCFE. The tenderer will be required to specify a guaranteed maximum delivery time from placement of order to delivery of all components to site at Culham Science Centre in the United Kingdom The scope of work for production of the above items will be (but is not limited to): — Procurement of material with traceable certification. — Production of manufacturing drawings. — Manufacture in accordance with CCFE quality requirements and ISO9001 standard. — Qualification of processes such as cleaning, leak testing and thermal compliance. — Packaging and Delivery. — Works are to be carried out in an acceptably safe and environmentally responsible manner. — All personnel are to be suitably qualified and experienced for the nature of the contract.
