Mortality screening and tracing lost contact pension scheme members

WYPF have always attempted to locate lost contact members of the pension scheme. Taking on new business has increased the numbers of lost contact cases, and reduced the time available for staff to undertake traces. To comply with The Pensions Regulator requirements on the quality and accuracy of data, and therefore the increasing need to keep up to tracing members, senior managers have identified the need for assistance to undertake this work. Significant increased numbers in pensioner members now means the volume of work associated with deaths and the associated overpayments recovery and fraud cases is rising. There is an identified need to close the gap between a death occurring and WYPF learning of the death, and lower the level of occurrence of unnotified deaths. The mortality screening of our UK members will reduce the number of cases and will save time and money. Inherited cases, where WYPF has taken over administration of a pension fund from another provider, have highlighted a particular case where a pension was stopped due to the perceived death of the pensioner. Eventually it transpired that the pensioner had not died and we therefore feel we need to check the records which were brought to us from another pension administrator to check that there are no further such cases.
