Summary of the work The DevOps Engineer will play a key role delivering and supporting the Universal Credit Data Platform.Working as part of a multidisciplinary agile team,they will support Network,Technical and Data Architects & Engineers to ensure solutions make use of open source technologies, are deliverable and maintainable.Strong collaboration across disciplines is a must. Specialist role Developer Expected Contract Length This will be a two year contract with an initial Statement of Works for up to 2 months Latest start date Monday 31 July 2017 Maximum Day Rate The maximum rate DWP is willing to pay is £550 which is exclusive of VAT and reasonable and agreed expenses up to a cap of £90 per day. The day rate will be evaluated as per the evaluation criteria %. Who Speclialist Work With Working as part of a multidisciplinary agile team maintaining and improving the Universal Credit Data Platform, they’ll work with Network Architects, Technical Architects, Data Engineers, and Business Analysts. What Specialists Work On Maintain and improve the Universal Credit Data Platform utilising their Linux admin skills, develop configuration management, orchestration and virtualisation scripts using but not limited to Ansible.& Open stack. Improve platform monitoring using Sensu and Prometheus. Manage code versioning using Git. Work in an agile environment following a prioritised backlog. Skills & Experience • Experience designing & building systems within a devops culture – particularly experience of optimisation of development and support processes through the use of automation. • Demonstrable experience applying DevOps technologies: Linux administrator in particular, GitHub, Config Management, Continuous Integration, Cloud technologies, Virtualisation Tools, Monitoring utilities (Sensu or Prometheus), Disaster recovery process/tools • Experience implementing and supporting digital solutions for Government, Critical National Infrastructure or large-scale industry systems • Experienced in troubleshooting and problem resolution.Able to dissect a problem to its component parts to identify and diagnose root causes. Able to troubleshoot and identify problems across different technology capabilities. • System Integration: Integrates and tests components, systems and their interfaces to create operational services. • Has knowledge of range of the following technologies: Hadoop, Flume, Sqoop, Map Reduce, Hive/Impala, Hbase, Kafka, Spark Streaming, experience with ETL tools incorporating Big Data Shell Scripting, Python Nice to Haves • Have an understanding of the following network technologies: LAN, WAN, VPN and SD Networks • Physical Hardware & Cabling set-up expereince • Experience of implementing and supporting BIG data analytics platforms built on top of Hadoop • Has an appreciation of information security, designing solutions and services with security controls embedded, specifically engineered as mitigation against security threats as core part of the solutions and services. Work Location One Leeds City Office Park Meadow Lane Leeds LS11 5BD Working Arrangments 5 days a week with minimum 3 days on-site in Leeds working as part of a multi-disciplinary agile delivery team with work being specified by a work management system (JIRA). You will attend daily stand-ups and relevant show & tells to monitor/discuss progress. Security Clearance Security Check (SC) Additional T&Cs Additional DWP Terms and Conditions will apply. To what degree is the below experience desired or necessary? Does it make up a significant part of the DevOps role? - 'Have an understanding of the following network technologies: LAN, WAN, VPN and SD Networks Physical Hardware & Cabling set-up experience' This knowledge would be advantageous when dealing with Network Architects & Engineers but is not essential. Maybe occasional assistance in the set up of Physical Hardware and Cabling. 5. If someone is eligible for SC clearance or has had previously but it has lapsed, will you sponsor the candidate, if successful to go through SC clearance? Preference is for SC clearance to be in place and this will be used when scoring submissions. BPSS cleared only are not excluded from applying and we will sponsor clearance for a successful candidate. 6. Can a candidate with DV clearance be considered for this role? Yes. 7. What is the lead time for feedback once the application is submitted? We will attempt to give feedback as quickly as we are able to. 8. Can more than one candidate per supplier be submitted for this role No, in line with the framework, we are unable to accept more than one candidate per a supplier for each role advertised. 9. Any chances of change in start date? No. 10. What are the other expenses which will be paid? Reasonable travel and subsistence up to a limit of £90 per day. 11. Is occasional remote working allowed? Yes, as per working arrangements:5 days a week with minimum 3 days on-site in Leeds working as part of a multi-disciplinary agile delivery team with work being specified by a work management system (JIRA). 12. What is the total number for positions open for this role? In total there are two Datawork developer (DevOps engineer) positions; this advert covers one, while the advert labelled position 2 covers the other. This advert is for one of those positions only. 13. Is there any travel involved in this role and will the travel expenses be paid? Base office is Leeds with additional travel to other DWP offices particularly London. Reasonable travel expenses will be paid. 14. Would you consider work permit holders (e.g. Tier 2 General Visa) and EU passport holders for this role? Yes. 15. Any specific format (pdf,doc) in which CVs to be sent later?
