The Council intends to secure the provision of a new affordable extra care housing scheme for older people on Land at Sorrel Way, Biggleswade, Bedfordshire. Outline planning application has been submitted, the site being brought to the market in conjunction with a neighbouring site with outline permission for residential development. Both sites are in Council ownership and a freehold disposal to 1 developer is envisaged, controlled via a development agreement. The Council intends to specify the type of housing to be delivered on the Land at Sorrel Way and the extra care scheme will provide affordable dwellings with a blend of affordable rental and shared ownership. The scheme will be owned or managed/operated by a Registered Provider (RP). The development agreement will state minimum requirements for the scheme in terms of facilities and the timing of completion. Arrangements for detailed design and construction can be the responsibility of either the principal developer or the RP.
