Tender description

NHSBT will invite tenders for the replacement of its existing Hemoflow 400 blood agitators. It is likely that this will also involve the maintenance of new agitators beyond their warranty period. The forthcoming ITT will include the following within a comprehensive specification: The device will be used, in conjunction with industry-standard collection pack systems, to collect whole blood from donors. Collection will take place in both fixed sites and on mobile teams. The device should be capable of operating either from mains 240v electricity supply or from internal battery power. The device will agitate blood during the collection process. It will also measure time taken and weight of the blood collected. The device should have control systems in place for the collection to automate the process as much as possible, for example by clamping off the donation line once the desired volume of blood has been collected. NHSBT will be purchasing sufficient agitators to replace all current machines.
