JSL is currently analysing the feasibility of a national Jisc Tiered Storage Service, building upon its current infrastructure such as the Janet highly reliable and secure world-class network and the recently established Jisc Shared Data Centre services. JSL is currently analysing the feasibility of a national Jisc Tiered Storage Service, building upon its current infrastructure such as the Janet highly reliable and secure world-class network and the recently established Jisc Shared Data Centre services. The Jisc Tiered Storage Service would take data from a range of applications and distribute the data across Jisc private cloud storage and public storage and archive cloud providers to meet the customers' requirements in terms of availability, accessibility, retention and other legislative and statutory requirements. In addition to levering its existing infrastructure investments, Jisc is in a unique position to negotiate with research councils, government and other bodies to determine and guarantee storage policies which meet the contractual and statutory requirements of its members.
