Wiltshire Council has a requirement for Investigating officer training. The learning will be part of the training provided for adult social care staff at both Wiltshire Council and Swindon Borough Council This is to be offered as a 3-day course, run one day a week over 3 weeks, to attend this course delegates will have had to previously attend the investigating officers’ foundation course. It will include opportunities to practise using case studies and group exercises. The course needs to deliver the following outcomes, enabling attendees to understand the responsibilities of investigating officers in relation to safeguarding adults – 1. The process and procedures for safeguarding adults, including considering the roles of the range of people and agencies represented. NB The course needs to reference and clearly distinguish the policies and procedures for both Swindon and Wiltshire so that delegates from either authority will leave with a clear understanding of the relevant procedure for their area 2. Achieving Best Evidence (ABE) contained in the Youth Justice & Criminal Evidence Act, including the recommended model for interviewing, special measures and question types 3. Legislation that underpins adult safeguarding, including the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and the Care Act 2014 4. Recording and report writing- including understanding the dos and don’ts and good practice Keywords: training
