Tender description

Network Rail makes a significant investment in surveying the railway using a number of platforms: helicopter, fixed-wing aircraft, UAVs, specialist trains as well as ground-based topographic surveys. The output of this activity is large volumes of data which includes Geospatial Data and High-definition Video Data. Providing access to this data to the users includes the following challenges: The data is large in volume (currently approx 700TB) and anticipated to increase significantly. The user-base is large and geographically diverse and comprises personnel from both Network Rail and suppliers/partners. The data needs to be accessible in different ways. As well as this, Network Rail manages a large database of Ordnance Survey mapping data provided under licence from Ordnance Survey, and other 3rd party datasets such as British Geological Survey data. The solution may comprise new technical platforms for Network Rail to manage the data, or fully managed services. The new solution can be considered as a set of new capabilities for managing data types which fall into the three categories below.
