Tender description

Construction of a series of 5 junction improvements along the western side of Yeovil between Thorne Lane and Lysander Road, together with the upgrading of 350 m of foot path to a cycleway and provision of 600 m of new footway. The affected route forms 1 of the main arterial routes around the western side of Yeovil and provides an element of an important link between the South Coast and the motorway network. The works will be in close proximity to residential areas as well as retail shopping facilities. The site also runs alongside the Leonardo Helicopters Airfield. The works include the provision of a number of retaining walls together with a number of traffic signal control installations and the creation/improvement of a number of cycle/walking routes. Site clearance will include the removal of a number of trees and associated hedgerows, together with some small sections of existing walling. The works are in Yeovil, Somerset and include (but are not limited to): Junction Improvement — Western Avenue / Copse Road — construction of a signal controlled junction; Junction Improvement — Preston Road / Western Avenue — replacement of roundabout with signal controlled roundabout; Junction Improvement — Bluebell Roundabout — replacement of roundabout with signal controlled roundabout; Junction Improvement — Westlands Roundabout — replacement of roundabout with signal controlled through about; Junction Improvement — Lysander Roundabout — replacement of roundabout with signalised junction; and The provision of pedestrian and cycle facilities.
