Tender description

The successful Supplier will be required to provide catering services for Rednal Hill Junior and Infant Schools. Whilst the catering contract offered has both schools in scope, each governing body is entirely separate. Rednal Hill Junior School is situated on the south western border of the city close to the Lickey Hills at Longbridge. The school was built in 1952 and has three forms of entry from Year 3 to Year 6. It offers full wrap-around care from 7:30 am until 18:00 each day. The building provides access to the full range of curriculum needs and has its own purpose built dining and refreshment area. Good use is made of spacious grounds which provide ample scope for sport and recreation. At Rednal Hill Infant School we value every child and work closely with parents to ensure that each child has a positive learning experience. We aim for every child to enjoy school but also to achieve the very best they are capable of. The contract will commence on 1.1.2018 for an initial period of 3 years, with the opportunity to extend for a further period of 3 years at the discretion of the different school governing bodies. This is the first time the market has been tested for the catering service. The Client expects the successful Supplier to enable the continued development of catering through the provision of an innovative, healthy food service, with fresh, seasonal, locally sourced ingredients being prepared in the shared kitchen on-site. The Client expects the successful Supplier to evidence, through their bid, how they shall support and complement their stated target. The Client requires year one menus to be fully compliant with the Food for Life Silver standard. The contract covers the scope for the provision of catering services within both the schools, which currently include: Junior School breakfast and after school clubs, lunch on both sites, all hospitality and free issue requirements. The Client intends to focus heavily on healthy, fresh, seasonal, locally sourced produce and sees the catering service as an exciting opportunity to complement the overall pupil experience, through the regular introduction of new ingredients, themed and promotional events. The successful Supplier will be required to play their part in acting as a catalyst for improvement of the pupil experience. The successful Supplier will work closely with the Client to manage the provision of catering and the overall ‘meal experience. Suppliers’ thoughts regarding how to support the schools' catering improvement objectives within the term of the initial contract are welcome. The schools are already ‘cashless’ with either ‘entitled’ parents, or a prepaid cash amount for each half-term's meals, paid in advance via the online ‘SchoolMoney’ payment system. The Client invites bidders to consider offers of appropriate capital investment. Nursery (5 pupils): Pay for school dinners on their 2 full-time days at a cost of 1.75 GBP per day — 3.50 GBP per week (this will increase to 10 pupils from September 2017). Infants (270 Pupils): Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are eligible for Universal Free School Meals, at no cost to parents / carers. Juniors (328 Pupils): Currently pupils are charged 2.25 GBP a day for a school meal. 110 are eligible for Free School Meals. The contract includes a service on each of the 190 full academic days and by agreement for the 5 inset days. Rednal Hill Junior School: annual catering revenue for the year ending 31.3.2017 - 88 000 GBP. Rednal Hill Infant School: annual catering revenue for the year ending 31.3.2017 - 57 200 GBP.
