Tender description
The overall objective is to assess the invertebrate fauna of the nature reserves to assist nature conservation site management decisions. The specific aims of the survey are as follows: • conduct an invertebrate survey at an appropriate scale for the site, reflecting the quality of the habitats listed for the site. There is not a requirement for an exhaustive survey of all taxa at all three sites and in all habitats but the survey should target the groups that are considered most appropriate for assessing the condition of the site. • produce a final report detailing the findings • to make brief management recommendations to maintain and enhance the invertebrate assemblages. The outcomes should include information and statements that explain how the specific aims were addressed. The outputs should include a final report in the Irish Wildlife Manual format and all the collected data supplied in a format to comply with the NPWS Project Delivery criteria. The outcomes required as a minimum include the following • a description of the invertebrate assemblages of the sites with emphasis on the characteristic, notable and rare species • complete list of the species recorded and associated data fields in a format that permits transfer to Recorder 6. • if appropriate to the taxa concerned, a listing of relevant historic records • associations of the invertebrate assemblages to habitats and management practices • assessment of the state of the site and its habitats with regard to the invertebrates • any management recommendations • a statement for the site synopsis that describes the invertebrate assemblage(s) of the site and highlights rare, notable and characteristic species • voucher specimens for selected species (mandatory for any species new to Ireland) to be provided to the National Museum of Ireland.
