Tender description

Translink is the main public transport provider in Northern Ireland and is made up of 3 companies: Metro, Ulsterbus, and Northern Ireland Railways (NIR). NIR operates a fleet of 23 CAF Class 3 000 units and 20 CAF Class 4 000 units. NIR also operates in partnership with Irish Rail, 4 ‘Enterprise’ units. These comprise De-Dietrich coaches powered with a GM 201 class locomotive. While carriages of the train are equipped with Wheel Slide Prevention (WSP) equipment currently the train is not equipped with any form of wheel rail adhesion enhancing sanding systems for either traction or braking. A turnkey project is required to design, supply and install wheel rail adhesion enhancing sanding systems under braking on 2 carriages of each Enterprise train set during 2017 (total of 8 systems). The sanding systems must operate in conjunction with the KBRS sanding system being installed on the Class 201 locomotive.
