Tender description
This contract is for the application of nematode solution to stumps on restock coupes in Wales, prior to restocking. In order to reduce the use of chemical pesticides, Natural Resources Wales uses beneficial nematodes in the defence against Large Pine Weevil damage to young trees. The microscopic nematodes are applied to stumps to infect the Hylobius abietis larvae, reducing the emergent adult population and minimising fatal damage to planted trees. This application must take place during June, July and August in order to infect the larvae, before they pupate and emerge as adults. We intend to award a contract to apply nematodes to a minimum of 150 ha and a maximum of 450 ha per annum. Nematode application programme is offered in 1 lot, covering sites across the Principality, with the bulk of the programme in Tywi Forest, Hafren Forest, Ceri Forest, Clocaenog Forest and Alwen Forest.
