Connecting Kingston – Concession Contract for Wireless Digital Technology It is proposed that the Council awards a Concession Contract for Wireless Digital Technology. The contract will enable a concessionaire to competitively source a range of technologies to deliver, initially, greater Public Space Public Wi-Fi across the Royal Borough as well as being an enabler to realise better mobile phone coverage through the deployment of Small Cell. Free wi-fi is currently available across Kingston Town Centre through operators such as BT, Sky and O2, and largely available within buildings such as shops, restaurants, cafes, hotels and bars, but not in public open space. The user experience is frustrated by multiple access points across different operators such as the Bentalls Centre, Eden Walk Shopping Centre and individual retailers. There is the opportunity to provide a holistic solution, as is the case in other retailing centres, to improve the user experience, which will in turn improve footfall. The concessionaire will be required to take into account the existing wi-fi provision so that visitors to the areas covered by free wi-fi have a seamless experience.
