Specialist role Web operations engineer Expected Contract Length 6-12 month Latest start date Thursday 1 June 2017 Who Speclialist Work With Architects, Devops, Datacenter engineers What Specialists Work On 1.Planning and migration of SPARC Solaris and IBM PowerPC Aix servers into new physical environment 2.Overlook the hardware installation in the DC 3.Installation of Solaris/AIX systems 4.Setting up update and patching strategies for both Solaris and AIX 5.Integrate with the existing Linux management stack Configure HBAs of SPARC and IBM servers to connect to SAN and prepare volumes for hosting OracleDB 6.Setup management services on Linux infrastructure 7.Setup monitoring 8.Work with Storage&Networking team to bring service Live 9.Work on current Linux AWS platform Skills & Experience • Solaris • AIX • SPARC Architecture • IBM Power Architecture • Linux • Puppet • SAN/Storage • Backups software • Monitoring(network, systems) • Scripting • Networking • Firewalls • Security Work Location 165 Fleet Street EC4A 2DY Working Arrangments Full-Time, one day working from home. Security Clearance Candidate should have valid Security Clearance with the Home Office. HMPO will sponsor if required. The spec for this role appears mostly similar to the Solaris/AIX DevOps Engineer position which was advertised in March. Is this for the same position and if so are there any changes in the technical requirements from that role? Yes this is the same role however some of the requirements have changed a little bit. 3. Hi, What I seem to be finding is that:- Unix Sys Engineers are in abundance, but with both Sparc and IBM Power this is a very very limited pool. How important is it someone has both. as I am sure you are aware, Sparc is more common - if having one would suffice which one? Of course there are a few people with both and you may already have relevant applicants. We will select the best applicant that we can get 4. Is the rate inclusive or exclusive of VAT? The rate is exclusive of VAT 5. Can more than one candidate per supplier be submitted for this role Only one candidate can be submitted per supplier 6. What is the total number for positions open for this role ? 1 position is available for this role 7. If a candidate holds SC from a different organization other than Home Office (e.g. MOD, MOJ,FCO etc etc) is Home Office ready to transfer the clearance and bear the necessary expenses. We will sponsor the Security Clearance 8. Are you able to clarify which technology is more important - Solaris or AIX? They are both just as important, we will assess every candidate using both criteria
