Tender description

Met Éireann is seeking a company to host and maintain an open source weather database and API (Application Program Interface) to provide geo-location forecasts for the public via the Met Éireann website and mobile application. This database and API will form a key part of the infrastructure underpinning Met Éireann’s digital services. Operational 24/7 continuity of this service is of key importance. Note that the database is not just a simple database extraction system but that serious scientific floating-point manipulation of the data is carried out as part of the database access. In particular data is converted between map projections and interpolation is applied. It is a mandatory requirement that each Tenderer completes the benchmark detailed in the RFT (see Appendix 8). All files and data will be supplied by Met Éireann when contacted by the Tenderer. This is necessary due to the file size limitations of eTenders.
