This county-wide project will increase the number of community enterprises in County Durham and support them to grow and thrive by promoting entrepreneurialism. It will change the culture within communities by demonstrating the benefits of enterprise and supporting people to become enterprise ready, establish new enterprises and increase employment by expanding the reach and activities of the community enterprises. Through consultation with organisations delivering business support it is recognised that a central ‘brokerage’ role is needed to link local enterprises and entrepreneurs to existing mainstream support. This proposal will create something different, which will enhance and promote existing provision whilst not duplicating or competing with this provision. The Council is currently in the process of submitting an ERDF (European Regional Development Funds) application for the match funding to enable delivery of this Project. At present the Council has committed 350 000 GBP of funding to ensure the delivery of the scope and achievement of the strategic objectives. Should the Council be successful in obtaining additional ERDF match funding the Council will have an overall budget of 875 000 GBP for the delivery and achievement of the objectives identified in the Memorandum of Information (MOI) provided as part of the Tender Pack. As part of any funding award the successful bidder must support the Council in adhering to any funding conditions applicable to the Project. All information relating to the Project is available as part of the tender pack from www.nepo.org
