Tender description
The MRC Epidemiology Unit has a large collection of human samples across several cohort-based studies (EPIC, Fenland, InterAct, Ely, etc.). The institute has a state of the art automated laboratory hosting new cutting edge storage systems i.e. The Arktic, a ultra-low temperature equipment and several liquid handling platforms (Tecan and Hamilton) working with 1 and 2D barcoded tubes. The laboratory has already the ability to measure bio-markers from small volumes of different sample types using the Meso Scale Discovery system (ELISA-based technologies). The scale of the work is very large as hundreds of samples are analysed daily through the various pipelines and data are stored in databases and/or LIMS system. The unit has recently received funding for capital investment to allow the expansion of the existing proteomic data-sets. The ability to screen across multiple proteins will be key for the discovery of new metabolic pathways.
