The provision of a self-recording high quality current profiling instrument with multi-sensor capabilities

Bord Iascaigh Mhara (BIM) is the state agency tasked with the set up and the promotion of the sustainable development of the Irish seafood sector. As part of assessing the shellfish carrying capacity of certain bays by the Aquaculture Division, BIM is required to gather current profiling data which will involve the deployment of self-recording equipment with the acoustic capability of gathering real-time monitoring data to meet application needs. The recording of high quality current readings and profiles is an essential part of information for downstream input and testing the robustness of environmental carrying capacity models. BIM requires a number (up to four) of Acoustic Doppler Current Profilers (ADCP) to be purchased. The current profilers have to have an ability to collect high quality current information on bottom moorings and have the ability to provide multi-parameter capabilities within a depth range of 4 to 20 m and 20 to 50 m. This equipment will be mainly used in inshore waters and sheltered bays around the coast of Ireland from depth varying from a few meters below the surface to 50 meters. The equipment will be deployed onto bottom moorings and possibly be in strong tidal current conditions with high turbidity. Therefore a durable system with easy maintenance and back up service is required. BIM now invites tenders for the provision of a self-recording current profiler instrument for inshore bay deployments. A detailed specification of requirements is set out in Section 2.
