The overarching aim of the National Cardiac Audit Programme (NCAP) is the collection, analysis and effective reporting of robust comparative data on the quality of care delivered to patients treated within cardiac services. The audit should at its core be a mechanism to drive improvement within the NHS for the benefit of patients and those working to deliver care, part of which is identifying where clinical practice or processes can be improved.
