Consultation Questionnaire Lancashire's local authorities have agreed to resettle up to 575 refugees under the Syrian Resettlement Programme and the Vulnerable Children's Resettlement Scheme between 2016 and 2020. The first 135 refugees arrived in September and November 2016 and about another 440 refugees will be resettled in Lancashire from 2017. Most refugees will arrive in July of each year and will be resettled in one of the 4 or 5 local authorities participating in the resettlement programme that year. The need to improve the refugees' English language skills is seen as an essential element of resettlement integration, to improve both their resettlement/integration experience and their employability. This consultation It has been agreed that Lancashire County Council will commission 2 years of English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) provision for each adult (aged 19 or over) arriving through the refugee resettlement programme. We want to draft a specification that takes into account the needs of the resettled refugees and also takes into account the skills, capacity and characteristics of potential providers. Therefore, we want your views in principle about how various aspects of the provision could work. Your views will be considered as we finalise our approach to recommissioning ESOL/language training for the refugee resettlement programmes in Lancashire. Responses to the questions in this consultation will not be considered as a commitment that your organisation will be able deliver a service in a specific way.
