Bath and North East Somerset Council wishes to establish a works contract for the provision of Churchill Bridge Post-Tensioned Special Inspection project.Constructed in 1964, Churchill Bridge (76009), comprises a single span simply supported bridge deck. The deck carries four traffic lanes, two in each direction, a central reserve and two footways. It provides a road crossing over the River Avon and thereby connects Lower Bristol Road and Broad Quay in Bath. A principal inspection and periodic review of the structural capacity of Churchill Bridge highlighted that there was a lack of record information regarding construction sequence, stressing sequence and grouting procedures. The report recommended that further site investigation and testing is undertaken to confirm concrete strengths before a final assessment value can be attained.
