Tender description

The objectives of the Prior Information Notice is to identify a vessel that can be chartered for work in the Bahamas for oceanographers to measure properties of the water (temperature, salinity, current speeds) using a lightweight tethered micro-structure profiler and underwater autonomous gliders. This is part of the NERC-funded research project Mechanisms responsible for Mesoscale Eddy Energy Dissipation (MerMEED) to understand how an eddy—a swirling vortex of water 100-200 km across—disappears from satellite data at the western boundary of ocean basins. Research expeditions will occur in the Bahamas waters (east of Abaco) with roughly 2 months advance notice, based on satellite observations of sea conditions. 2-3 cruises will occur during the Nov 2017-May 2018 period, inclusive.
