Tender for the Supply and Installation of Advanced Thermal Analysis Equipment (4 lots) to be used in the Thermal Energy Research Accelerator Laboratory — University of Birmingham The University of Birmingham invites tenders for the supply of the following 4 Lots: Lot 1: High Pressure Thermal Analyser — The device must be able to achieve and then function fully over a pressure range between 100-150 bar. Must be able to work at different pressure levels up to this range and be able to hold pressure for the experiment. — The device must be able to vary pressure level per experiment and during an experiment. — Device must come equipped with a variety of different sample holder types for various samples (plate, cup, crucible holder, grids etc.). — The device must function fully over a temperature range from the room temperature to 1 500oC; a device that can be used for low temperature measurements (sub-ambient) will be of advantage. — The device must have a compatible chiller incorporated to meet the system cooling requirements for the measurements. — The device must be able to adjust and precisely control humidity/moisture level during experiment. Should be able to generate level of steam/humid environment within test chamber. — Test chamber should be forcefully cooled with a cooling jacket/medium inside the furnace. — The device must come with a set of standards for calibration and the accuracy of the measurements must be better than 0.5oC temp accuracy. — The device should be able to work with at least 3 gaseous environments and under a vacuum level of approx. 10E-5mbar. — Users must be able to control experimental program steps. — There must be a 3 year warranty included. — The devices must be able to precisely control the heating rates between 0.1-25oC per minute, and the devices with a wider temperature range will be of advantage. — The device must be able to utilise a variety of different crucible types to meet different materials requirements and these crucibles must be easily purchased from the market. — The device must be able to perform accurate measurements and record data, including but not limited to temperature, pressure and enthalpy of phase transitions, specific heat, and mass loss. More functions will be of advantage. — The device must be able to work for a variety of materials including but not limited to powders, solids, liquids, suspensions, mixtures, composites and polymers over the temperature ranges. — The device must be supplied with full units self-contained that can be used directly to perform all functions within the specified temperature and pressure range after electrical connection without needs for external heating or cooling requirements. — The device must have automatic control, data logging and software with powerful data analysis functions. — The devices must also be able to connected to MS and FT-IR if needed with additional interconnection parts. — A training package must be provided for a group of users. — Supplied device must come will all required standards to calibrate. Lot 2: Low Pressure Thermal Analyser — The device must be functioning fully over a pressure range of 0-5 bar. — The device must fully function at a temperature range between -180oC and 1 600oC. — The device must come with a set of standards for calibration and the temperature accuracy of the measurements must be better than 0.5 %. — The device must have a compatible refrigeration unit incorporated to meet the system temperature control and cooling requirements for the measurements. — The device must be able to adjust and precise control humidity/moisture level during experiment. — The device should be able to work with at least 3 gaseous environments and under a vacuum level between 10E-2mbar-10E-6mbar. — Users must be able to control experimental program steps. — There must be a 3 year warranty included. — Provided device must have some way of generating water vapour/steam inside testing environment. — The devices must be able to precisely control the heating rates between 0.1-30oC per minute, and a device with a wider temperature range will be of advantage. — The device must be able to utilise a variety of different crucible types to meet different materials requirements and these crucibles must be easily purchased from the market. — The device must be able to perform accurate measurements and record data, including but not limited to temperature, pressure and enthalpy of phase transitions, specific heat, and mass loss. More functions will be of advantage. — The device must be able to work for a variety of materials including but not limited to powders, solids, liquids, suspensions, mixtures, composites and polymers over the temperature ranges. — The device must be supplied with full units self-contained that can be used directly to perform all functions within the specified temperature and pressure range after electrical connection without needs for external heating or cooling requirements. — The device must have automatic control, data logging and a software package with powerful data analysis functions. — The devices must also be able to connected to MS and FT-IR if needed with additional interconnection parts. — The device must come with a powerful computer needed for the measurement, control and data processing. — A training package must be provided for a group of users. — Supplied device must come will all required standards to calibrate. Lot 3: Laser Flash Analyser — The device must function fully for thermal diffusivity and thermal conductivity measurement at a temperature range of -180 and + 1 600oC. — It would be ideal if the device could perform measurements under pressure range (0-50 bar). — The device must be able to performing measurements of thermal diffusivity of a range of 0.01mm2/s to 1000mm2/s or more. — Multiple simultaneous sample measuring capabilities would be advantageous. — The device should be able to work with at least 3 gaseous environments and under a vacuum level between 10E-2mbar-10E-6mbar. — System required should be compact for space saving and ease of installation, ideally in the range of 1600x800mm. — The device must have 3 years of warranty. — The device must be able to vary temperature level per experiment. — The device must have a compatible chiller incorporated to meet the system cooling requirements for the measurements. — The device must be able to perform accurate measurements and record data, including but not limited to temperature, pressure, thermal diffusivity and thermal conductivity. More functions will be of advantage. — The device must be able to work for a variety of materials including but not limited to powders, solids, liquids, suspensions, mixtures, composites and polymers over the temperature ranges. — The device must be supplied with full units self-contained that can be used directly to perform all functions within the specified temperature and pressure range after electrical connection without needs for external heating or cooling requirements. — The device must have automatic control, data logging and software with powerful data analysis functions. — The device must be able to measure multiple samples simultaneously to achieve multiple diffusivity points at set temperatures. — The device must come with a powerful computer needed for the measurement, control and data processing. — A training package must be provided for a group of users. — Supplied device must come will all required standards to calibrate. Lot 4: Quick Thermal Conductivity measuring unit based on hot bridge, wire, hot disc /disc conductivity system or other techniques — The device must be able to perform fast thermal conductivity measurements at a temperature range of -180oC — 800oC. — The device must be able to give accuracy better than 5.0 %. The device must be able to cope with different shaped samples of different sizes from a few millimetres to unlimited. — Provided system must be able to measure a large range of different sample sizes, smallest from 20mm to unlimited max sample size. — Must be able to work using an integrated unit including integrated heating and cooling with software and corresponding hardware. — Multiple sample measuring capabilities would be advantageous. — The device must have 3 years of warranty. — A device with a temperature control unit is of an advantage. — The device must be able to perform accurate measurements and record data, including but not limited to temperature, thermal diffusivity and thermal conductivity. More functions will be of advantage. — The device must be able to work for a variety of materials including but not limited to powders, solids, liquids, suspensions, mixtures, composites and polymers over the temperature ranges. — The device must be supplied with full units self-contained that can be used directly to perform all functions within the specified temperature range after electrical connection without needs for external heating or cooling requirements. — The device must have automatic control, data logging and software with powerful data analysis functions. — The device must come with a computer needed for the measurement, control and data processing. — A training package must be provided for a group of users. — Supplied device must come will all required standards to calibrate. As detailed in Section 3 and above, this tender is for the supply of advanced Thermal Analysis units capable of measuring, recording and analysing of different materials for different properties under different measuring conditions for multiple measurements. The detailed requirements have been given above. As detailed above, these devices must be able to operate under various environmental conditions including but not limited to: Nitrogen, Argon, Helium, CO2, Air and various moisture levels. The users must be able to control heating rates with good accuracy, record data at high resolutions, and analyse the data with a powerful built-in software package. Tenders must include all software packages available to both measure and post process data including full training and support.
