Tender description

Wave Energy Scotland (WES) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Highland and Islands Enterprise and is taking an innovative approach to supporting the commercialisation of the wave energy sector until the technical and commercial risks are low enough for the private sector to re-enter the sector. This call was for Engineering Design Studies into Structural Materials and Manufacturing Processes, specifically on the construction of the WEC structure and prime mover and whether it is possible to make a step change impact in LCOE by constructing typical WEC devices from alternative materials. The call took the form of a three stage programme with applications limited to Stage 1 at this time. Proposals were invited for Engineering Design Study proposals relating to one of the following material categories: — Hybrid Structures using rotational moulding of polymers, — Elastomers, — Concretes, — Other alternative materials. This is a Contract Award notice and as such this process is now complete. WES offered up to 100 % of project costs via a contract for Engineering Design Studies for Stage 1 activities. This included up to 250 000 GBP (excluding VAT) per project of up to 12 month duration, with applicants free to contribute further funds if desired.
