Tender description

One of the support services provided to disabled students by the University of York is the non-medical support service where support workers provide educational assistance to disabled students studying at the University. To assist with the provision of non-medical support services, the University put an arrangement in place with an external partner some years ago and the cost of this was largely met from the student's individual Disabled Students Allowance (DSA) where eligible. However, following a review by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS), changes have been introduced to the funding of these support services in England and it is now the duty of the University to meet the costs for band 1 and 2 support. Accordingly, the University now wishes to appoint external provision of band 1 and 2 non-medical support services including (but may not be limited to): — Practical Support Assistant; — Library Support Assistant; — Reader; — Proof Reader; — Scribe; — Laboratory Support Assistant; — Sighted Guide; — Study Assistant; — Examination Support Worker; — Manual Notetaker. In order to ensure that there is sufficient capacity to meet the University's requirements, it is envisaged that contracts will be awarded to two or three providers each providing support to one or more of the University's three faculties: the Faculty of Social Sciences, the Faculty of Sciences and the Faculty of Arts and Humanities.
