Summary of the work GOV.UK Verify is the new way to prove who you are digitally to interact with your personal data held by government services. We are now tasked with increasing user accounts. We require an interim Developer to facilitate this. Specialist role Developer Expected Contract Length An initial period of 3 months (with an extension clause for up to 9 months) Latest start date 02/05/2017 Who Speclialist Work With Technical team supporting the GOV.UK Verify hub. Technical Business Analyst and a Technical Architect (to be recruited) What Specialists Work On Build RESTful web services to serve a variety of citizen and government needs, taking responsibility for the quality of code you produce. Implement toolkits and APIs for purposes such as integration, performance optimisation, security and scalability. Build automated tests to support our continuous deployment environment. Share knowledge of tools and techniques with your wider team, both developers and non-developers. Participate in our in-house (2nd line) support. Skills & Experience • Min 2 years experience in back-end development, with detailed knowledge of at least one of Java and Ruby • Understanding of software design principles • Ability to quickly research and learn new programming tools and techniques (examples expected) • A systematic approach to solving problems • Experience of using testing to validate solutions (examples expected) • Understanding of agile environments and version control • Understanding about web security and secure development • Awareness of technologies used for web applications, e.g databases, backups, CDNs and search, of Unix-like operating systems, eg Linux, Mac OS experience working on, or with web technologies Nice to Haves • Knowledge or experience of working with SAML and Shibboleth • Experience of working with external parties • Experience or knowledge of front-end development including CSS, JavaScript, HTML Work Location Government Digital Service, moving this year from: Aviation House, 125 Kingsway, London, WC2B 6NH to Aldgate East area Working Arrangments Onsite full-time 5 days a week.
