As part of numerous services supplied to the seafood sector, packaging-technology queries represent a large proportion of queries received by SDC on an annual basis. BIM’s Seafood Development Centre (SDC) deal directly with seafood processors and work with clients to trial and test various packaging concepts with an aim of identifying the optimal packaging solutions for new product formats. BIM/SDC are currently looking to ensure the SDC has packaging capabilities representative of industry best practice and to remain ahead of the Irish seafood processing sector. In line with this aim, SDC are seeking interest from packaging equipment suppliers to supply new packaging technologies capable of scaled-production and testing at SDC and for in-factory trials. The packaging equipment will have in-line dual skin-pack and MAP packaging capabilities and throughputs of minimum 8 to 10 packs per minute sealing in MAP and skin-on-tray formats. This equipment will be used for commercially-led projects in the areas of raw chilled, frozen, cooked and pasteurised NPD and will be suitable scaled production trials in factory settings. This equipment must be suitable for piloting commercially relevant concepts and should consist of commercially-available intermediate-scaled machinery suitable for production environments. Equipment may be transferred off-site to seafood processing facilities for in-factory scale-up trials and the equipment should therefore be suitable for commercial production runs.
