Summary of the work We are looking for an experienced Wordpress developer to replace our legacy web site and work with our IT supplier to consolidate our public facing web services. You would need to build templates and custom post types based on wireframes. You will also be adept at following clear customer requirements. Specialist role Developer Expected Contract Length Up to 2 months Latest start date 30 January 2017 Maximum Day Rate Maximum of £400 per day for up to 2 months. Early Market Engagement N/A Who Speclialist Work With You will be working with our digital team in Leeds and our in-house UX designer and user researcher in Birmingham alongside our IT department and third party IT support supplier to coordinate strategy and deployment of the completed project. You will also help get them into a position where they can support the finished product. You will be expected to participate in weekly sprint calls and project meetings where required. What Specialists Work On Our public facing web services need to be consolidated within a single web domain. Working with our IT supplier the number of servers needs to be reduced, legacy services closed down and hosting switched to AWS within Rackspace. This will require updating and optimizing the Wordpress install and server infrastructure to maximize performance and accommodate new and existing content. In addition you will implement designs and improvements, build new page templates and site functionality based on feedback and testing. We will also require full documentation of the new developments. This work should be completed by the end of March 2017. Skills & Experience • 3 years or more experience developing Wordpress websites for organisations and/or public bodies • A good understanding of open source and digital technologies • Experience of setting up and managing Linux based servers • Linux, Windows, PHP, MySQL (LAMP/WAMP stack) development experience • CSS customization experience • Good knowledge of HTML5 and mobile optimization techniques • Experience building Wordpress themes and templates • Knowledge of researching, developing and implementing plugins to enhance template functionality • Experience of working with existing RSS and formatting xml feeds using XSLT • Previous experience successfully delivering Wordpress environments as part of an agile team Nice to Haves • Have experience of working with maps e.g. google map api, OS mapping or similar • .NET development experience/knowledge • Experience of delivering projects for local or national government • Have demonstrable experience of working in a culture of continuous delivery and improvement. • Experience in documenting developments and providing user training following implementation • Effectively capture, utilise and collate insight, visuals, wireframes and views from a diverse range of stakeholders to assist in delivery of outcomes Work Location Highways England, Lateral, Leeds. Also the option to work at our office in Birmingham and remotely for some of the development work. Working Arrangments Flexible working arrangements off location with some work on location. You will work with a small in house Agile team. Work can be mainly off site but with weekly conference calls and occasional face to face meetings in Leeds, Birmingham and possibly London.
