Tender description
This notice is a call for competition in accordance with Directive 2014/24/EU of the Euporean Parliament and of the Council Article 48(2). Background Durham is a very special university. As well as being a world top 100 university with an impressive research portfolio and excellent teaching standards, our staff, students, colleges, departments, estate and traditions all combine to make this a wonderful place to study, work and live. Durham University is a comprehensive research-intensive university that prides itself on providing an education and wider student experience that is on par with the very best institutions worldwide. We have been developing a new University Strategy that sets out our aims to ensure that we are world-leading in all of research and engagement, education, and the wider student experience. International Strategy. To achieve our strategic aims, we are clear that we must be an international university so that we attract the very best students and faculty from around the world. We have identified that we need to see a significant increase in the proportion of international students who attend Durham University, at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, to ensure that we are in the top tier of Russell Group universities. One potential option that we are keen to explore is to establish an International Foundation College (IFC), or equivalent body, operated in partnership with a private provider at our Queen's Campus, located at Stockton-on-Tees. The intent would be that the IFC help the University significantly increase its proportion of international students. We are keen to explore the full spectrum of potential delivery models to achieve this critical strategic aim. Queen's Campus. Queen's is a modern campus with excellent facilities for staff and students. The campus is self-contained, with colleges and learning resources co-located, and shared dining facilities on an attractive waterfront location. The recent investment in a modern sports hall combined with new student facilities, including a bar and communal area, creates an attractive ‘mini University’. The site is wholly owned by the University, and is currently used to teach 2 200 undergraduate and postgraduate students. We are exploring relocating the majority of academic activity at Queen's to a Durham or near Durham locality, which would allow us to repurpose Queen's Campus by establishing an International Foundation College. Durham University brand Durham is a truly world-class university with a long history of welcoming students and academics from all over the globe. Our many collaborative partnerships with international universities allow us to share knowledge and promote inter-cultural learning, ensuring that our graduates are in high demand on the global stage. Founded in 1832, Durham University is England's third oldest university after Oxford and Cambridge and the only UK university to have all subjects ranked top ten. Durham University is distinctive — a Collegiate University with ancient traditions and modern values. A member of the prestigious Russell Group, Durham is ranked 5th in the UK (Complete University Guide 2015) and is a World Top 100 University (QS World Rankings 2015). The QS World Rankings also ranked Durham in the World Top 50 for employer reputation. Contract. The notice does not involve the setting up of a Dynamic Purchasing System or a framework agreement.
