Extra Care Housing provides a preventative approach to supporting people to retain independence, choice and control and provides a viable alternative to residential care home placements, key elements of Extra Care schemes include: — Security of tenure deriving either from an assured tenancy or lease with the right to control access to their own property; — Independent living by providing individually tenanted and self-contained accommodation and services that are tailored to be flexible and responsive to changing need; — The option to provide opportunities for social interaction and community engagement; — An ethos that promotes self-determination, enabling and independence; — A model of supported housing rather than residential care. Care is to be provided within a number of Lots of pre-existing Extra Care schemes. They are: Lot 1 — Springbank Court, Blackburn, — St Margaret's Court, Blackburn. Lot 2 — Kingsway, Blackburn. Lot 3 — Cotton Spinners Court, Darwen; — Hindle Court, Darwen; — Lees Court, Darwen; — Pembroke Court, Darwen. Provision of extra care at the 7 schemes (split into the above 3 Lots) will require day time care support to individual tenants based on commissioned need, responses to care requests when a pull cord or handset is triggered and night time care cover across the schemes.
