Dr McNamara’s research group in the Discipline of Biomedical Engineering, College of Engineering and Informatics at NUI Galway use multidisciplinary approaches to derive understanding of bone mechanobiology and how this process contributes to development, physiology and bone disease. Dr McNamara has been awarded funding from Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) under Grant Number 14/IA/2284 “Mechanobiology based approaches for osteoporosis therapeutics”. The purpose of this project is to provide new information that can inform the generation of novel therapeutics approaches for osteoporosis. For this research, a fluorescent and brightfield microscope is required to allow the group to accelerate their understanding of the mechanobiology of cells in bone during osteoporosis. A spectrophotometer is required to facilitate assays to evaluate gene expression in various experiments. The preference is a single source but NUI, Galway is open to whatever the market dictates.
