Tender description
Camden CCG wishes to engage with a suitably qualified provider for one year to deliver further courses for their DIY Health Education Programme for parents of children under 5 years old. The contract value for this pilot service should be between £25,000 and £30,000 excluding VAT. DIY Health Pilot - Background Camden Clinical Commissioning Group (CCCG) recently undertook a review of children and young people's healthcare services in Camden. One of the results of this review, called All Together Better (ATB) found that: • Two-thirds of children attending Emergency Departments need no or very minor investigation or treatment - so potentially care could have been provided outside of hospital. Children under five account for the largest proportion of these attendances. • Similarly, 20% of outpatient appointments with a general paediatrician in hospitals did not need input from a paediatrician. • Parents consulted for the review reported variable levels of awareness about where to go for advice about how to manage minor illness, such as the minor ailment scheme and 111. Usage of these services was low amongst those attending Emergency Departments. As a result it was agreed to run a pilot programme that identifies parents of children aged under five years old that attend ED or the GP practice more frequently than their peers and to work with that group of parents to co-produce a programme that enables them to correctly identify and manage minor ailments at home, to understand the appropriate sources of advice and support, be more comfortable in accessing a range of services and be more confident and capable parents, which will have cost saving benefits for the NHS. The pilot programme was delivered in September to November 2016. The pilot consisted of two 8 weeks courses being delivered in the north and south of Camden borough. Additional funding has been secured to deliver 2 further courses. One year has been allocated to this contract to provide time for the evaluation.
