The Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA) work to prevent and control animal disease across Great Britain through activities on farms, at markets and other livestock-related premises, and through specialist veterinary laboratory and scientific services. APHA also has global responsibilities, notably acting as the National, European and International reference laboratory for several exotic and zoonotic notifiable diseases. One of the many functions performed by APHA is surveillance for new and re-emerging threats to animal health in farm animals. This is delivered through close collaboration with the livestock industry and private veterinarians, combined with post mortem examination and sample testing of suitable carcases. Scanning surveillance detects food safety threats, helps to fulfil statutory national and international disease reporting requirements, identifies welfare problems and suspect adverse medicines reactions. The Authority seeks a Contractor to provide Carcase collection service for an initial period of six (6) months — 6.3.2017 to 31.8.2017 to collect carcases that are of surveillance value from the Authority assigned area in England — North East, and deliver them to the appropriate PME site. The Authority may wish to extend the contract for a further period of up to up to twenty four (24) months. The service provided by the appointed Contractor shall make the task of moving Carcases from farms to the agreed PME site an efficient and effective process in order to encourage Farmers to engage with the surveillance of animal health and welfare in farm animals.
