York Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Outsourced Orthopaedic Elective Activity Trauma & Orthopaedics Directorate Procurement Information Notice 1. Introduction The Trauma and Orthopaedic Directorate at York Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (YTH) undertakes a range of orthopaedic elective procedures for the local population at York Hospital and Bridlington Hospital. Due to capacity constraints it has been necessary for an element of the annual elective activity to be subcontracted to other providers to deliver the activity within the Trust to satisfy the demand on the service. The purpose of this notice is a request to other interested providers that are able to provide an element of the required capacity to support the Trust in the delivery of its elective activity. 2. Scope of work/procedures YTH would expect the provider(s) to be prepared to offer the full range of elective orthopaedic procedures as undertaken electively in the NHS (with no exclusions) within Trust facilities at the York and/or Bridlington Hospital sites. The service will include as a minimum: — Appropriate medical cover to manage the needs/care of the post-surgical patients prior to discharge (day case patients) or transfer to the ward. — Nurses with appropriate skills to manage the needs/care of the post-surgical patient prior to discharge (day case patients) of transfer to the ward. — Consultant Surgeon and Anaesthetist relating to the referred procedure. — Theatre team, comprising of nurse, healthcare care assistants and ODPs with appropriate skills to safely manage the theatre environment. — Nurses and healthcare assistants with appropriate skills to manage the day case ward. — Administration of the patients admission. — Treatment of the condition for which the patient is originally admitted and any related complications. — A clear plan detailing the process for any medical emergencies. — Service will be provided on Trust Premises. — Utilisation of the Trust information system and medical records in the recoding of the information pertinent to the admission, procedure and on-going care plan. — The provider must be licenced to possess controlled drugs. — The provider must be registered with the care quality commission. — Ensure all staff are trained appropriately in the use of any equipment or materials utilised in the provision of the service. — Undertake and present any required audits. — Undertake and publish patient satisfaction surveys on a 6 monthly basis. Excluded from this scope: — Guaranteed volumes of activity. — Day case ward accommodation will be provided by the Trust. — Inpatient ward accommodation will be provided by the Trust. — Inpatient nursing provision will be provided by the Trust. — Pre –operative outpatient assessment. — Dressings. — Prosthetics and theatre consumables — (Provider must use Trust provided prosthetics). — Pre, intra and post-operative drugs (all drugs). — Inpatient physiotherapy. — Medical Imaging. — Pathology and histology. — Physiotherapy aids. — Outpatients follow ups. — Patient information. — Elective Orthopaedic procedures deemed not anaesthetically/clinically suitable.
