Testing of Private Water Supplies

Tender description

There are Wiltshire Council procedures for sampling water supplies and these supplement procedures set out in the Private Water Supplies Sampling Manual published by the Drinking Water Inspectorate. Samples are taken for both bacteriological and chemical analysis, and must be delivered for testing within 24 hours of being taken. The European Union Drinking Water Directive (Council Directive 98/83/EC) concerns water intended for human consumption and sets out standards and requirements for drinking water. This Directive is transposed into national regulations through the Water Supplies (Water Quality) Regulations 2000 (as amended) for public water supplies, and the Private Water Supply Regulations 2009 (England) for private water supplies. The Water Industry Act 1991 is the primary national legislation and defines Local Authority powers and responsibilities in relation to private water supplies. Wiltshire Council?s public health and public protection service is responsible for risk assessing and monitoring these supplies
