Services for Children and Young People who Display Sexually Concerning or Harmful Behaviour

Rotherham Borough Council along with Barnsley MBC and Doncaster Children's Services Trust are inviting tenders from experienced children's social/health care services to deliver a 1 year contract to deliver services for children and young people display sexually concerning or harmful behaviour Services for children and young people who display sexually concerning or harmful behaviour have developed nationally since the early 1990s. This provision has resulted from recognition that some children and young people sexually abuse others or exhibit other sexually inappropriate behaviour. Services which provide interventions to address this are recognised as making an important contribution to the prevention of sexual abuse. In 1999 the service was developed in South Yorkshire in partnership with Barnsley, Doncaster and Rotherham (the named Councils), to provide direct services for this group of children and young people. There is now an established level of service currently operating in South Yorkshire primarily in the provision of assessments and programmes of intervention with children and young people who display sexually problematic or harmful behaviour, and their families who are resident in Rotherham, Barnsley and/or Doncaster. Advice, consultation and training are also offered to professionals across the range of agencies which are involved in child protection and youth offending issues. The development of a child-centred model of practice within the service has led to it achieving national recognition within this field of work. Over the last twelve years the service has been highly valued by service users and professionals for its contribution to this area of work
